Overview

Why development matters

Having a product idea and having a manufacturable product are two very different things. Most ideas die in the gap between a sketch and a factory-ready design — not because the idea was bad, but because nobody managed the engineering translation: tolerances, materials, assembly sequence, and cost optimization.

CN Ally's product development service closes that gap. We work with factory engineers and independent industrial designers to turn your concept into CAD files, then into physical prototypes you can hold, test, and iterate. Every round is checked against your requirements and cost targets before the next one begins.

Unlike pure design agencies, we develop with manufacturing in mind from day one. Design-for-manufacturing (DFM) reviews happen before tooling is cut, not after — which is why our developments reach mass production without the expensive redesigns that plague so many hardware projects.

What's included

Everything handled for you

A complete service — not a checklist you have to manage yourself.

Feasibility analysis

We assess whether your concept can be manufactured at your target cost, flag technical risks, and suggest simplifications before you spend on design.

Engineering & CAD

2D/3D CAD development with factory engineers — dimensions, tolerances, materials, and assembly designed for real production lines.

Rapid prototyping

3D-printed and CNC prototypes in days, not months. We receive, test, photograph, and report on every prototype round.

Design for manufacturing (DFM)

Factory engineers review the design for producibility and cost — often cutting 20–40% from the initial manufacturing cost.

Material & component sourcing

We source the right grades of plastics, metals, electronics, and finishes — balancing performance, cost, and availability.

Pilot production run

A small pre-mass-production run (typically 50–200 units) to validate the full process: assembly, QC, and packaging.

Cost engineering

We break down the bill of materials and attack the biggest cost drivers — so your retail price works from day one.

Production handoff package

Complete documentation: CAD, BOM, assembly instructions, QC checkpoints, and packaging specs — ready for any factory to produce.

Process

How it works, step by step

You approve every stage before we move to the next.

1

Concept review

You share sketches, reference products, or a written brief. We evaluate feasibility, estimate development cost, and propose the engineering path.

2

Design & CAD

Industrial design and engineering produce manufacturable CAD files, reviewed with factory engineers for DFM.

3

Prototype rounds

Rapid prototypes are built, tested against your requirements, and revised — typically 2–3 rounds over 3–6 weeks.

4

Pilot run

A small production run validates assembly, quality consistency, and packaging before mass production tooling is finalized.

5

Mass production handoff

With the design frozen and validated, we transition to mass production under our standard QC regime.

Pricing

Clear, honest pricing

  • ✓Development projects are quoted fixed-fee based on complexity — typically $1,500–$8,000 for full concept-to-production management.
  • ✓Prototype costs (3D printing, CNC, hand samples) are charged at cost; we never mark up prototypes.
  • ✓The development fee is credited against our service fee on your first mass production order.
  • ✓Ongoing engineering changes after design freeze are billed hourly — which is why we freeze carefully.

FAQ

Product Development — common questions

Yes, that's exactly when to engage us. We'll help you articulate the concept, assess feasibility, and decide whether it's worth developing. The concept review is free, and we'll tell you honestly if the idea isn't manufacturable at your target price.
Private label customizes existing products (your branding on a proven design). Product development creates something new: original engineering, new tooling, and full R&D management. Development takes longer and costs more, but produces a product competitors can't buy off the shelf.
You do, in full. All CAD, documentation, and tooling ownership is assigned to you in writing. We can also arrange NNN agreements with everyone involved in development.
Then the process did its job — cheaply. Discovering a fatal flaw at the $2,000 prototype stage instead of the $50,000 production stage is a win. We'll help you pivot the concept or make a clean go/no-go decision with real data.
Yes — Shenzhen is our backyard for electronics development. We work with engineering teams experienced in consumer electronics, including firmware, app integration, and certifications (FCC, CE-RED). Tell us the concept and we'll assess it.
Absolutely. We're happy to sign your NDA before you share anything sensitive, and we use NNN agreements with factories and engineers as standard practice.
