Overview

Why packaging matters

Packaging does three jobs: protect the product, present the brand, and survive the journey. Most sellers underinvest in all three — then pay for it in damaged goods, weak perceived value, and listings that look generic next to competitors.

CN Ally designs packaging at the source, where it's manufactured. That matters because structural design (box strength, inserts, protection) and graphic design (branding, print) have to work with the factory's actual materials, printing processes, and cost structure. Designing in your home country and hoping a Chinese factory can execute it is how packaging projects go wrong.

We handle both sides: structural engineering for protection and unboxing experience, plus graphic design for brand presentation — with physical proofs you approve before mass production. And because we're already managing your production, packaging development runs in parallel instead of delaying your launch.

What's included

Everything handled for you

A complete service — not a checklist you have to manage yourself.

Structural packaging design

Box structures, inserts, and protection engineered for your product's weight, fragility, and shipping method — including ISTA-style drop testing.

Graphic & branding design

Retail-ready artwork: your branding, product photography placement, feature callouts, and multilingual text as needed.

Dielines & specifications

Production-ready dielines with material specs, print processes, and finishes — documented for the factory and reusable for reorders.

Material selection

We recommend materials balancing protection, presentation, sustainability, and cost — from rigid boxes to molded pulp to flexible pouches.

Physical proofs

You approve real printed proofs, not screen mockups. Color, finish, and structure verified in hand before mass production.

Compliance labeling

Required markings for your market integrated into the design: CE, FCC, recycling symbols, warning labels, country-of-origin.

Unboxing experience design

For DTC brands: tissue, stickers, inserts, and reveal sequencing that turns opening into a brand moment worth sharing.

Cost optimization

We engineer packaging to hit your cost target — often finding that better protection costs less than the damage it prevents.

Process

How it works, step by step

You approve every stage before we move to the next.

1

Brief & product analysis

You share your product, brand assets, and goals (retail shelf, e-commerce, unboxing experience). We analyze protection needs and cost targets.

2

Structural concepts

We develop 2–3 structural directions with the packaging factory, considering materials, protection, and unit cost.

3

Graphic design

Artwork is created to your brand guidelines (or we develop them) and laid out on production dielines.

4

Physical proofs

Printed structural proofs are produced, tested (including drop tests for fragile goods), and revised — typically 2–3 rounds.

5

Production approval

You approve the final proof. Dielines and specs are archived; mass production packaging is QC-checked like any other component.

FAQ

Packaging Design — common questions

Factories default to the cheapest generic packaging that technically works. That's fine for B2B, but for branded retail or DTC it undersells your product and often under-protects it. Dedicated packaging design pays for itself in perceived value and reduced damage claims.
Structural design is the engineering: box shape, materials, inserts, and how the product is protected. Graphic design is the visual layer: branding, colors, text, imagery. Great packaging needs both working together — a beautiful box that crushes in transit is a failure, and vice versa.
Yes — it's a frequent request. We work with FSC-certified boards, molded pulp, paper-based cushioning, soy inks, and plastic-free constructions. We'll be honest about the cost premium (usually 10–25%) and where it can be minimized.
Yes. We design to Amazon's FFP standards where requested, including the required testing documentation, and coordinate the enrollment process.
Absolutely. Send us your artwork and dielines; we'll validate them against the factory's print capabilities, produce proofs, and manage production. We catch the technical issues (bleed, color modes, minimum text sizes) that cause reprints.
Highly variable: a simple custom mailer box might add $0.30–$0.80/unit at 1,000 units; premium rigid boxes with inserts run $1.50–$4.00. We engineer to your target and show you the cost at each design decision.
