Sourcing apparel & textiles in China

China remains the world's most complete apparel supply chain. Guangzhou and Dongguan handle fast-turnaround fashion garments, the Pearl River Delta covers denim and knitwear, and Zhejiang's Shaoxing/Keqiao district is the largest fabric market in Asia โ€” you can touch ten thousand fabrics in a single afternoon. Jiangsu adds strength in home textiles and technical fabrics. For most categories, you can go from tech pack to bulk production in 30โ€“45 days, with embroidery, printing, washing, and finishing all available within the same industrial zone.

Apparel's failure modes are subtle and systematic. The fabric that arrives isn't the fabric that was approved โ€” a slightly lighter GSM, a polyester blend where cotton was specified. Sizing drifts across the production run as cutting markers shift. Color shade bands between dye lots. Stitching that looks fine on the sample but skips under production speed. And labeling: fiber content, care instructions, and country-of-origin labels are legally required in the US and EU, and wrong labels can hold a shipment at customs.

CN Ally runs apparel sourcing like a production office. We start from your tech pack โ€” or help you create one โ€” and manage PP (pre-production) samples through to bulk. Our QC uses the four-point system for fabric inspection, measures every size against your spec sheet, checks shade banding across dye lots, and verifies all labeling compliance before packing. We also manage the size-ratio math with you, because the most common inventory mistake in apparel is ordering the wrong size curve, not the wrong product.

MOQ guidance

Minimum order quantities, realistically

Factory MOQs are starting positions, not laws of nature. Here's what to expect in this category โ€” and how we work around it.

1

Garment MOQs are typically 100โ€“200 pieces per color, with size ratios (e.g. Sโ€“XL) spread across that quantity โ€” the per-color minimum is what actually constrains small orders.

2

Fabric itself often carries the real MOQ: 300โ€“500 meters per color for custom dyeing, which is why stock fabrics are the smart choice for trial runs.

3

Embroidery, printing, and garment washing add setup costs that push effective MOQs up โ€” we consolidate these processes at one factory to keep small runs viable.

4

For first orders we negotiate trial quantities and help you plan the size curve, so you're not stuck with 200 units of a size that doesn't sell.

QC focus points

What we inspect for this category

Generic inspections miss category-specific failures. Our QC protocol for this category targets the defects that actually occur.

PP sample approval before bulk

No bulk cutting starts until you approve the pre-production sample โ€” the binding reference for fabric, construction, measurements, and trims.

Four-point fabric inspection

Fabric rolls are inspected under the industry-standard four-point system for flaws, and GSM, composition, and color are verified against the approved spec.

Measurement audit across sizes

Every size is measured against your tech pack tolerances. Sizing drift across a production run is caught here, not by your customers.

Shade banding & dye lot control

Panels from different dye lots are compared under standard lighting. We define the acceptable shade band with you before production.

Labeling & compliance verification

Fiber content, care labels, country of origin, and RN/CA numbers checked against US and EU requirements โ€” wrong labels can stop a shipment at customs.

FAQs

Common questions about sourcing apparel & textiles

Yes. Send reference garments, photos, or even a sketch with key measurements. We'll work with the factory's pattern makers to develop a tech pack and produce a proto sample for your approval. Many of our apparel clients start exactly this way.
We specify GSM, composition, and construction in the purchase terms, verify the bulk fabric against the approved swatch during pre-production inspection, and check composition again if anything looks off. Fabric substitution happens when buyers never check โ€” our process checks.
We regularly place trial orders of 100โ€“200 pieces per color. Using stock fabrics instead of custom-dyed ones is the key to making small runs economical, and we help you choose fabrics that are available off the shelf.
We source GOTS-certified organic cotton, recycled polyester (GRS), and OEKO-TEX certified fabrics from certified mills, and we verify the certification documents rather than taking claims at face value. Tell us which certifications your brand needs and we'll build them into the sourcing criteria.
Factories cut in size ratios (e.g. 1-2-2-1 for S/M/L/XL). We'll help you plan ratios based on your market and sales data, and flag when a factory's ratio pushes you toward overstock in slow sizes. Getting the curve right matters more than most buyers realize.
